Weather Update: Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Likely Across Multiple States, IMD Issues Warnings

IMD has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings across several states, including Jharkhand, Odisha, East Rajasthan, and Gujarat, over the coming week. Delhi/NCR and South India will see light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, while coastal areas may experience strong winds.

Weather Update: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions of India in the coming days. Upper air cyclonic circulations over Gangetic West Bengal, Bangladesh, and Southwest Uttar Pradesh, along with a fresh low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal around 25th August, are influencing the country’s weather. Here’s a detailed forecast region-wise, including Delhi/NCR.

East & Central India: Extremely Heavy Rainfall Over Jharkhand, Odisha

East and Central India are expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall over Jharkhand and Odisha. Other states including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and West Bengal may experience isolated heavy rainfall over the next week. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely at most places.

Northwest India will see extremely heavy rainfall in East Rajasthan on 23rd August. Other areas including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir may witness isolated heavy rainfall over the next week. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely.

West India: Heavy Rainfall to Continue Over Gujarat, Konkan, Maharashtra

Western India, especially Gujarat, will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on 23rd August. A fresh spell is likely from 25th August onwards. Konkan, Goa, and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra are expected to see very heavy rainfall during 26th–28th August. Strong surface winds of 40–50 kmph are likely over Gujarat coast.

Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will continue to experience isolated heavy rainfall from 23nd–27th August. Arunachal Pradesh may receive isolated heavy rainfall during 23nd–25th August. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected at many places during the next two days.
