Weather Update: Monsoon Nears Kerala; Heavy Rain in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi Showers, Heatwave in Rajasthan

Monsoon is set to arrive in Kerala soon, bringing heavy rain to the southern and western coastal regions. Meanwhile, intense heatwaves grip Rajasthan, and thunderstorms with rain are expected in many parts of North and Central India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major weather alert as a low-pressure system over the east-central Arabian Sea, near the Konkan-Goa coast, is set to intensify, bringing widespread rain along India’s west coast. Heavy to very heavy showers are expected in Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala, with extremely heavy rainfall likely in some areas.

At the same time, scorching heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are gripping parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Meanwhile, all eyes are on Kerala as conditions turn favourable for the much-awaited onset of the Southwest Monsoon. Here are the details

Monsoon Onset Likely in Kerala Within 2–3 Days

A low-pressure system over the east-central Arabian Sea off the Konkan-Goa coast is set to intensify into a depression by May 23. This development, along with other favorable atmospheric conditions, is likely to pave the way for the onset of the Southwest Monsoon in Kerala.

Southern India is set to receive widespread rainfall over the week. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema will witness thundersqualls with gusty winds, while Tamil Nadu and Telangana are also in for isolated heavy showers.

Delhi/NCR Weather Forecast: Showers and Cool Relief

Delhi residents will get a brief relief from the heat. The IMD forecasts light rain, thunderstorms, and cooler temperatures till May 25. The skies will remain partly cloudy with gusty winds and occasional dust storms.
