Weather Update: IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert Across Gujarat, Maharashtra, MP, Bihar and Other States

Weather Update: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts and warnings indicating heightened monsoon activity across various parts of India. The monsoon trough, currently south of its normal position, is expected to gradually shift northwards from 21st August 2025, bringing widespread rainfall across multiple regions.

Recent weather systems, including a weakened depression over Chhattisgarh, cyclonic circulations over northeast India and the Arabian Sea, and a shear zone along 21°N latitude, are influencing weather patterns across the country. These systems are responsible for isolated to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong surface winds in several states.

West India: Heavy Rainfall in Saurashtra, Kutch, and South Gujarat

West India is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days, with isolated extremely heavy rain predicted over Saurashtra & Kutch and south Gujarat. Meanwhile, rainfall activity over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra is expected to reduce slightly, but isolated heavy showers will continue.

East and Central India: Scattered Heavy Rainfall Expected

East and Central India will see isolated heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Odisha during the week. Very heavy rainfall is predicted over south Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Biha, and Chhattisgarh. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms will accompany these events.

Northwest India: Rain and Thunderstorms Across States

Northwest India will experience isolated heavy rainfall over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. Very heavy rainfall is likely in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and East Rajasthan.

Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected at most places across Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan during the week.

Northeast India: Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Continues

The northeastern states are set to experience isolated heavy rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh. Very heavy rainfall is predicted in Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Mizoram from 21st-24th August, and in Assam and Meghalaya from 21th-23rd August. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is expected at many places over the next three days.

South Peninsular India: Isolated Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds

South Peninsular India, including Coastal & North Interior Karnataka, Telangana, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, will see isolated heavy rainfall on select dates. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms will prevail over Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana over the next five days.

Delhi/NCR: Cloudy Days with Light Rain Likely

Delhi and the National Capital Region can expect generally cloudy skies with the possibility of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms between 21th and 23rd August. Temperatures are expected to remain slightly below normal during this period.

IMD has urged residents and authorities to remain alert, especially in regions expecting very heavy rainfall and strong winds. Travelers and local populations are advised to take precautions against potential waterlogging, urban flooding, and disruptions due to storms.
