Weather Update: IMD Forecasts Temperature Rise of Up to 5°C in Several Regions of India, Hailstorm Alert Issued for Jharkhand and Odisha

IMD's forecast for the week (20-23 Feb) includes scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms, gusty winds, and lightning across parts of India, with temperature trends showing above-normal minima in some regions and high maxima in others.

IMD has issued its weather forecast bulletin and drew significant changes in the weather pattern for the upcoming week, starting from 20th of February. While some parts of India may see a rising change in temperature while others can expect gusty winds, hail storms, moderate to heavy precipitation followed by lightning and thunderstorms. Here is a detail report of the forecast:

East and Central India

A trough extends from Gangetic West Bengal to Telangana, while the presence of anti-cyclonic circulation is felt over the north Bay of Bengal at lower tropospheric levels.

Jammu and its neighboring areas to witness a western disturbance due to a cyclonic circulation in lower tropospheric levels. 

Another induced cyclonic circulation is seen over northwest Rajasthan & neighboring areas in lower tropospheric levels.

Upcoming weather alert: A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India from 24th February, 2025 which may cause Isolated to Scattered light to moderate precipitation over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad on 24th & 25th February and parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on 25th February.

South India

Parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are to receive isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lighting on the 22nd and 23rd of February.

North East India

Cyclonic circulation was observed over northeast Assam in lower tropospheric levels. Scattered to fairly widespread precipitation alert in areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
