Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall, Thunderstorms Forecast Across Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi & More

IMD has forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across India, including extremely heavy showers in parts of the east, west, and central regions. Delhi/NCR and southern states are also expected to see rain and cooler temperatures, offering relief from the heat.

Weather Update: India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across various regions in the coming days. The advancing monsoon will bring relief from the heat, especially in Central, Eastern, and Western India. There may also be extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas such as Jharkhand, Konkan, and Gujarat, along with a significant drop in maximum temperatures. Here are the details:  

East & Central India: Widespread Rain and Isolated Heavy Showers

A significant spell of rain is forecast for East and Central India, including Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. Isolated extremely heavy rain (>20 cm) is expected over Jharkhand, with very heavy rainfall anticipated over Bihar, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh on various dates. These showers will be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

West India: Extremely Heavy Rain in Konkan, Maharashtra & Gujarat

The Konkan region, ghat areas of Maharashtra, and Gujarat are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall. Light to moderate rain will continue daily, with localized very heavy spells in Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat around June 20–23. Gusty winds and thunderstorms may accompany these rains, especially in coastal belts.

Northwest India: Rain Spells Across Himalayan States & Uttar Pradesh

Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan are all expected to receive significant rainfall during the forecast period. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected on specific dates, including 20th June in Uttar Pradesh and 22nd–25th in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Gusty winds (40–50 kmph) will accompany these showers.

Northeast India: Persistent Rain with Thunderstorm Activity

Northeast India will continue to experience widespread rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning. Isolated places could see heavy to very heavy downpours. This wet spell is expected to persist for the entire week.

Temperature Outlook & Heat Warnings

  • Madhya Pradesh will see a significant drop in daytime temperatures (2–4°C fall over 5 days), helping relieve intense summer heat.

  • No major temperature changes are expected in other parts of India.
