Weather Update: IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall Across Several States, Depression Likely to Form Near Odisha Coast

Weather Update: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong winds across several states in the coming days. A well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression. The states likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall include Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Odisha, Telangana, South Interior Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka, and Gujarat. Meanwhile, the monsoon remains active over southern Peninsular India and parts of adjoining central India. Here are the details:

West India Weather Outlook

Extremely heavy rainfall is forecast at isolated places over Konkan & Goa and Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on 19th August. Gujarat is expected to experience similar conditions on 19th and 20th August.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected at most places across the region for the next seven days, accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas.

South Peninsular India Weather

Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, South Interior Karnataka, Telangana, and North Interior Karnataka are expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall. Strong surface winds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely until 19th August.

Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is expected over Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Telangana for the next five days.

East & Central India Weather

South Odisha and south Chhattisgarh may witness extremely heavy rainfall on 19th August. Several other states, including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar, are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall during the coming week.

Northwest India Weather

Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh will experience isolated heavy rainfall over the next week, with very heavy rainfall predicted at certain times in Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan.

Northeast India Weather

Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to see isolated heavy rainfall over the next seven days. Very heavy rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, and Assam & Meghalaya on selected days.

Delhi/NCR Weather Forecast

The capital region is expected to experience generally cloudy skies with very light to light rain or thundershowers from 19th to 21st August. Maximum temperatures will remain near normal, while minimum temperatures are slightly below normal on some days. 

Residents are advised to stay alert to local weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains, secure loose objects, and take precautions in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Carry umbrellas and stay indoors during thunderstorms to ensure safety.
