Weather Update: IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alerts Across India; Rajasthan, Kerala, MP, Uttarakhand, and Odisha Among Worst-Hit

A depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh is causing heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, with some areas experiencing extremely heavy downpours. Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu will also see continued heavy rain, with very heavy falls at isolated spots.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alerts for various regions across the country, as multiple active systems continue to drive widespread rainfall and thunderstorms. A Depression that formed over southeast Uttar Pradesh has moved towards northwest Madhya Pradesh and is expected to weaken over the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, a fresh Western Disturbance and several upper-air cyclonic circulations are adding to the intense monsoon activity expected across India over the next 7 days. Northwest India: Extremely Heavy Rains in Rajasthan and Uttarakhand

With the Depression moving through Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, northwest India will experience a spell of intense rainfall. Rajasthan is already under an orange alert for extremely heavy rain, and similar conditions are expected in Uttarakhand by the weekend.

Wind Warnings for Central and Northern India

Due to the Depression's movement, strong winds are likely over several regions:

  • North Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh: 40–50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph 

  • South Haryana and nearby areas: 30–40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph

  • South Peninsular India: Surface winds up to 50 kmph till July 22

Temperatures will remain near normal, with slightly cooler nights and brief rain spells likely each day.

As the monsoon picks up intensity, the IMD has urged residents, especially in central, northwestern, and southern states, to stay alert for flooding, strong winds, and possible landslides. Travellers and farmers are advised to follow local weather updates closely and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this active monsoon spell.
