Weather Update: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of an active monsoon phase with a fresh low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal, likely to intensify into a depression within 24 hours. This system, along with other weather patterns, is set to trigger widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across several states, including Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha, while Konkan, Mumbai, and coastal Andhra may experience extremely heavy downpours in the coming days. Here are the details
Monsoon Systems in Play
A low-pressure area has developed over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, off the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts. IMD predicts that this system will move northwestwards, likely turning into a depression and crossing the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts by the forenoon of 19th August.
Meanwhile, cyclonic circulations over the Northeast Arabian Sea, Central Pakistan, and Punjab are also influencing rainfall patterns across western and northern India.
West India to Witness Intense Rains
West India is set for multiple spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall, with IMD warning of extremely heavy rains in Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra between 18th–19th August. Gujarat is likely to receive intense showers on 19th and 20th August. Strong winds up to 50 kmph are also expected, particularly along the Konkan coast.
