India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather update highlighting the formation of a low-pressure system, expected rainfall in several regions, and warnings about cold wave conditions across parts of the country. Weather Systems in Play

• Cyclonic Circulation over South Andaman Sea: An upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over the south Andaman Sea and the southeastern Bay of Bengal. This is likely to evolve into a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours. It is expected to intensify and move west-northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu's coast over the following two days.

• Western Disturbance Influence: A western disturbance, combined with a cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and Jammu, is influencing northern and western parts of India, with cooler temperatures and possible cold wave conditions.

Rainfall Forecast

IMD has predicted significant rainfall activity over the coming days, driven by a developing low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal and other atmospheric influences. Southern states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas. Additional thunderstorms and lightning are likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema during 17th-19th December.

A significant drop in temperatures is predicted across many regions, with cold wave conditions prevailing in several states.The IMD reports a notable decline in minimum temperatures, especially in northwest and central India, accompanied by warnings of severe cold waves and frost in specific areas. • Current Temperatures: Minimum temperatures across northwest and central India range between 4-8°C, while many areas in east and western India report 8-14°C.

• Lowest Temperature: 1.3°C recorded at Adampur, Punjab.

• Notable Decline: A fall of 1-2°C observed across most regions.

Cold Wave Conditions

Dense fog is likely to blanket several regions, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, during the late night and early morning hours. This could reduce visibility and impact travel conditions in these areas.

Weather Outlook for Delhi/NCR

Delhi NCR are set to experience clear skies over the coming days, accompanied by calm winds and variable directions. However, smog, mist, and shallow fog are likely to persist during morning and evening hours, impacting visibility.
