
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely to continue over Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim for the next five days.
Rainfall with thunderstorms is also expected to persist across South Peninsular India, with isolated heavy showers over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu during the next three days. Meanwhile, heatwave conditions are likely to affect parts of West Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar during this period.
Monsoon Watch: Steady Progress Over Southern Seas
The Southwest Monsoon is making steady progress, having already advanced into parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, the Maldives, the Comorin area, and the South Bay of Bengal, including the Andaman Sea.
As of 15th May, the northern limit of the monsoon extends up to the southern Andaman Sea, signalling favourable conditions for further advancement in the next three to four days. The IMD has confirmed that all these regions have officially entered the monsoon phase, marking the beginning of its northward journey across the subcontinent.
Northeast India: Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Likely
The IMD predicts widespread rainfall across the Northeast for the next five days. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected across Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
