Weather Alert: IMD Issues Red and Orange Warnings for Extremely Heavy Rainfall in Rajasthan, Odisha, Gujarat, Bihar & Several Other States

Two well marked low pressure areas, one over northeast Rajasthan and adjoining northwest Madhya Pradesh and another over southeast Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, are triggering intense monsoon activity. Heavy to very heavy rain with isolated extremely heavy showers is likely over Rajasthan, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, southeast Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an extensive weather update as multiple weather systems continue to influence widespread rainfall activity across India. With active monsoon troughs and two well-marked low-pressure areas, states across the northwest, east, central, west, northeast, and southern India are expected to witness varied intensity of showers, including extremely heavy rainfall in several regions. Delhi-NCR will also experience overcast skies with light to moderate rain over the next few days. Here are the details

Northwest India: Rajasthan, Himachal & Uttarakhand on Alert

Under the impact of a well-marked low-pressure system over northeast Rajasthan and adjoining northwest Madhya Pradesh, the northwest region is likely to receive widespread rainfall with very heavy showers over the next few days. States such as Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are on high alert for extreme rainfall events, especially between July 15 and July 17.

East & Central India: Multiple States to See Intense Showers

A second well-marked low-pressure system has moved from north Bay of Bengal towards Gangetic West Bengal and is expected to intensify into a depression. This will trigger extremely heavy rainfall over Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh, while other areas like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands will also witness widespread rain.

West India: Gujarat, Maharashtra Brace for Strong Showers

The western region, including parts of Gujarat and Maharashtra, will also be affected by the current weather systems. Gujarat is likely to receive very heavy rainfall, especially, while Konkan & Goa and the Ghat areas of Maharashtra are expected to receive heavy showers.

Northeast India: Wet Spell to Continue with Isolated Heavy Showers

Northeast India will continue to see consistent rainfall activity over the week. A few regions, including Meghalaya, are expected to receive very heavy rainfall.

South India: Widespread Rain & Strong Winds Forecasted

Southern states will experience a prolonged wet spell, with Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 15 to 20. In addition, strong surface winds with speeds of up to 50 kmph are expected.

Additionally, hot and humid conditions are expected in isolated parts of Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema on July 15.

Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast

Delhi and surrounding NCR areas will remain under generally cloudy to partly cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall, occasional thunderstorms, and lightning. Surface winds will vary in strength and direction throughout the day, with temperatures staying slightly below the seasonal average.

Temperatures over Delhi will remain 1–5°C below normal for both day and night, with wind speeds gradually decreasing each day.

With the monsoon systems strengthening and spreading across the country, IMD has advised local administrations and residents to stay alert, especially in regions under heavy rainfall warnings. From the flood-prone hills of Uttarakhand to the rain-battered plains of Odisha and the Konkan coast, India’s monsoon season is in full swing, bringing both relief and challenges in the coming week.
