IMD forecasts active monsoon conditions across southern and northeastern India, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall expected in several regions. Meanwhile, parts of northwest India continue to experience heatwave conditions as the advancement of the monsoon remains limited.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dynamic weather conditions ahead. The monsoon is expected to become active, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall across South India, with isolated instances of extremely heavy downpours in Konkan and Goa. Meanwhile, scorching heatwave conditions are likely to persist across Northwest India, especially in West Rajasthan, before easing by mid-week. These weather patterns are driven by multiple upper-air cyclonic circulations and troughs spread across the country. Here are the details

South Peninsular India: Rain Intensifies with Extreme Downpours Expected

An active monsoon phase is forecasted for the southern peninsula. States like Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana will see moderate to very heavy rainfall, with isolated areas possibly experiencing extreme rainfall between June 12 and 16.

West India: Thunderstorms and Extremely Heavy Rain Ahead

Parts of Maharashtra, Goa, and surrounding areas will see a increase in thunderstorm activity, especially in the Konkan and Marathwada regions. Extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan & Goa by midweek.

Northwest India: Heatwaves Persist with Some Rain Relief in Hills

Northwestern India continues to battle extreme heat. While plains such as Rajasthan and Punjab face ongoing heatwave conditions, the Himalayan regions like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh will get relief with moderate rainfall.

Delhi-NCR: Heatwave Followed by Thunderstorms and Rain

Delhi is expected to witness scorching heat during the early part of the week, with temperatures touching 45°C. However, light showers and gusty winds are expected on June 12 and 13, providing some relief.
