India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast update for the coming days, highlighting the likelihood of heavy rainfall in southern states, cold wave conditions in the northern and central regions, and dense fog across various parts of the country.

Weather Systems in Play

  1. Low Pressure over Bay of Bengal: A low-pressure area persists over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining the east equatorial Indian Ocean. It is expected to intensify over the next 24 hours, moving west-northwestward and reaching the southwest Bay of Bengal near the Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coast around 11th December 2024.

  2. Western Disturbance: A cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Uttar Pradesh, influencing weather patterns in northern India.

Rainfall Forecast (10th - 14th December)

The southern regions of India are set to experience significant rainfall over the coming days due to the influence of a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, while isolated showers are predicted in Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Kerala, and Karnataka.
