Weather Update: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh alerts as active monsoon systems continue to trigger widespread rainfall across the country. Central India, especially southeast Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and south Chhattisgarh, is set to receive extremely heavy showers, while several states have already seen intense rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. More rainstorms are expected in the coming days.
East and Central India to Witness Torrential Rainfall
According to IMD, a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand is expected to move slowly towards north Chhattisgarh. Combined with a trough from northeast Arabian Sea to Odisha, this system will fuel intense rainfall activity.
Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) is expected over southeast Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and south Chhattisgarh. The downpour will continue across the region through the week.
