Weather Update: IMD Forecasts Rain, Thunderstorms and Heatwaves Across Delhi, Rajasthan, Odisha, West Bengal and Other States- Check Full Forecast Here

IMD predicts thunderstorms, rainfall, and gusty winds across several regions, with dust storms likely in parts of Rajasthan. Heatwave conditions are also expected in eastern states including West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for changing weather conditions across the country from May 9 to May 14. Several regions are expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and even duststorms, while eastern and central parts may face heatwave conditions.

Delhi-NCR and many states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Odisha will experience varied weather patterns, including light to moderate rainfall. Here's a detailed region-wise forecast with alerts and temperature trends for the coming days.

Northwest India: Showers, Thunderstorms and Duststorms Ahead

Under the influence of a western disturbance and cyclonic circulations, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till May 11.

States like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan will witness isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds (40–50 kmph). West Rajasthan could see duststorms on May 9 and 10.

West India: Stormy Weather on the Coastline

West India, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa, is forecast to receive isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall with gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph. Thundersqualls with winds up to 70 kmph may strike coastal areas like Konkan & Goa and parts of Maharashtra.

Central and East India: Strong Winds and Thundersqualls Expected

From May 9 to 12, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh will experience light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and winds up to 60 kmph.

West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand will also receive rainfall on selected days. A thundersquall alert has been issued for Chhattisgarh and West Madhya Pradesh.

South India: Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Across States

The IMD forecasts thunderstorms and light/moderate rainfall for Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu through May 12. Winds are expected to gust up to 50 kmph, particularly on May 9.

Northeast India: Heavy Rains and Thunderstorms Likely

Northeast India will witness widespread rainfall and thunderstorms for the next 5 days. Very heavy rain is expected over Assam and Meghalaya on May 11 and 12, while Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram may also experience isolated heavy rainfall.

Heat Wave and Temperature Forecast

Temperatures are expected to gradually rise by 3–5°C in several parts of India, especially in the east and northwest. Heatwave warnings are in effect for Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand from May 10 to 14.

Additionally, hot and humid weather is likely to affect Odisha, West Bengal, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Karaikal on May 9.

Delhi/NCR Forecast: Mild Rain and Cooler Temperatures

Delhi will witness partly to generally cloudy skies, light rainfall, and thunderstorms during evening/night hours for the next four days. Wind speeds may temporarily surge up to 50 kmph, providing some respite from the heat. The maximum temperature will remain below normal during this period.
