India is set to experience significant weather variations this March, with a Western Disturbance bringing rain and snowfall to northern regions, while coastal areas, particularly Karnataka, brace for heatwave conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for these contrasting weather patterns, urging residents to take necessary precautions. Here are the details

Western Disturbance Brings Rain and Snow to Northern India

A Western Disturbance is currently influencing the weather over northern India, bringing significant rainfall and snowfall to various states. The disturbance, located in the upper tropospheric levels at around 5.8 km above sea level, is expected to impact the region over the next few days.

A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to impact the region from March 9, leading to isolated to scattered rain and snow over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Northeast India to Witness Showers and Thunderstorms

A cyclonic circulation over Northeast Assam and surrounding areas will bring isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

Temperature Forecast and Heat Wave Alerts

The maximum temperatures across Rajasthan are expected to fall by 2-3°C over the next three days, followed by a gradual rise. In Gujarat, temperatures will remain stable for 24 hours before dropping by 2-3°C. No significant temperature changes are expected in other parts of the country.

However, heat wave conditions are likely to persist in isolated pockets over Coastal Karnataka. Additionally, hot and humid weather will prevail over Konkan & Goa from March 4-6 and over Coastal Karnataka from March 4-7.

Delhi is set to experience mainly clear skies over the next few days, with mist expected in the mornings. Strong surface winds (20-30 kmph) will persist on March 4 and 5.
