Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rain in Himachal, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Gujarat; Delhi/NCR to See Cloudy Skies and Rain: IMD

IMD forecasts active monsoon conditions across India this week, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Northwest and West India, and heavy showers with thunderstorms in Central, East, Northeast, and South regions. Delhi/NCR will remain cloudy with intermittent rain.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued its weather forecast for the coming week, highlighting the formation of a low-pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and active monsoon systems across the country. These systems are likely to bring isolated extremely heavy rainfall over several states, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate to heavy showers in different regions. Here are the details

Northwest India: Heavy Rainfall Alerts for Himachal, Uttarakhand, and Punjab

The IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West and East Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Rajasthan during the period from September 3 to September 8.

Light to moderate rainfall is expected at most or many places across the region in the next seven days. Residents are advised to remain cautious in flood-prone areas and follow local authorities’ advisories.

West India: Monsoon Rains to Intensify in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa

Western India is expected to see extremely heavy rainfall over isolated places in Gujarat (September 4-6) and Saurashtra & Kutch (September 6-7). Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, and Gujarat Region on several days.

Light to moderate showers with thunderstorms and lightning may occur at many places during the week. Fishermen and local authorities are advised to monitor weather updates closely due to potential heavy rains along coastal areas.

East and Central India: Isolated Heavy Rainfall Expected

Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, with heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted in West Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand on different days.

Thunderstorms and lightning are likely at many places along with light to moderate rainfall during the week. Farmers are advised to secure crops and monitor local weather alerts.

Northeast India: Persistent Showers Across Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh

The IMD forecasts isolated heavy rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from September 3 to 7. Arunachal Pradesh may receive isolated heavy showers on September 4 and 7. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected at many places in the region over the next seven days.

Delhi/NCR Weather Forecast: Cloudy with Rain and Thunderstorms

Delhi/NCR is expected to remain generally cloudy with spells of light to moderate rain and occasional thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall at isolated places is possible on September 3. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain below normal by 1-5°C during this period, while minimum temperatures may drop up to 4°C below normal. Winds will generally be from the southeast and northeast directions with speeds ranging between 8-25 kmph.
