Western disturbances will bring widespread snowfall to the Himalayan region, while cyclonic activity is expected to cause rains in Tamil Nadu. Cold wave and cold day conditions will grip parts of Northwest India, with dense fog affecting visibility across northern and eastern states. Western Disturbances Bring Snowfall and Rain

Western Disturbances are set to bring rain and snowfall to Northwest India and the Western Himalayan region. Light to heavy precipitation is expected, especially during the first week of January, affecting both the mountains and nearby plains.

  • Current System: A Western Disturbance (WD) is present as a cyclonic circulation over East Afghanistan.

  • Upcoming System: Another WD is set to impact Northwest India starting 4th January 2025, bringing widespread changes.

A cyclonic circulation over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal is causing:

  • Rainfall: Light to moderate, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

  • Heavy Rainfall: South Tamil Nadu 

Temperature Trends and Cold Wave Warnings

As we head into the final days of December and the beginning of January, India is experiencing significant variations in temperature.
