Weather Report: Heavy Rainfall Along with Thundershowers in These States; Fishermen Asked to Stay Away from Sea

Monsoon seems to be very favourable for India this year. The months of August and September received good amount of rainfall. Now talking about weather today, there will be heavy rainfall along with thundershowers at many places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Northeast states, East Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, South Chhattisgarh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, South Interior Karnataka & Lakshadweep Islands.

Monsoon seems to be very favourable for India this year. The months of August and September received good amount of rainfall. Now talking about weather today, there will be heavy rainfall along with thundershowers at many places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Northeast states, East Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, South Chhattisgarh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, South Interior Karnataka & Lakshadweep Islands.

Apart from this, moderate rainfall and thundershowers is likely at scattered places over Eastern part of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Central & Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, some parts of West Bengal, Coastal Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, North Madhya Maharashtra, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

According to the weather department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Gujarat as well as Rajasthan. As per IMD, strong breeze is very likely to prevail over the Arabian Sea. Also rough Sea condition is expected to prevail along Gujarat & north Maharashtra coasts. Keeping this in mind, fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas.

Cyclone Alert

In addition, a deep depression formed in the northeast and adjacent east-central Arabian sea moved nearly westwards with a speed of 17 kmph and has intensified into Cyclonic Storm named ‘Hikka’ today. Cyclone Hikka is very expected to move westwards and reach Oman coast by 25th September morning.

Due to the cyclonic activity, gusty wind, with a speed of 60 kmph may have some impact over Gujarat coast during next 24 hours.

A weather expert said that the country at present is going through a strong ‘Indian Ocean Dipole’ (an irregular oscillation of sea-surface temperatures) that is actually driving the intensity of rainfall across different places, including Mumbai city.

Now talking about the Northern part of the country, here subdued weather conditions are likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab Delhi and West Rajasthan. Light rainfall is also likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Weather in Delhi has been pleasant since Saturday morning with light showers at many places on Sunday.  Light rainfall in Chandigarh and neighboring areas also provided relief to the people from the humid weather. Mohali in Punjab & Panchkula in Haryana also witnessed light showers. The maximum temperature at most places in Haryana and Punjab has been hovering in between 33 to 35 degrees Celsius for the last few days. According to the IMD forecast, isolated places in Haryana and Punjab will receive light rainfall till 26th September.
