Weather Today

As per weather experts, the super cyclonic storm ‘Kyarr’ will maintain its intensity on Tuesday (29th October 2019). Until Wednesday, the sea conditions in the central Arabian Sea will be rough with gale winds of over 220 kmph due to the Cyclone.

As northerly winds & easterly winds meet, there will be sporadic rainfall with some heavy spells over Maharashtra and southern Odisha. Isolated rainfall is also likely over many Northeastern states due to a cyclonic circulation over Meghalaya.

Besides this, another cyclonic circulation will bring isolated rainfall or snowfall over northern Jammu and Kashmir. However, Northwest and Eastern part of the country will remain dry. Air quality in major cities including Delhi can reach hazardous levels after Diwali celebration and increase in stubble burning activities.

At present, Southern states of India are receiving continuous heavy rainfall since past few days. The weather department has said that Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep will witness heavy rainfall and thunderstorms for another 2-3 days. It has also asked fishermen to avoid going deep into the sea.

rainfall

Tamil Nadu has received moderate to heavy showers at many places during the last 24 hours. The coastal areas in particular have received good rains. As per records, Nugambakkam observatory in Chennai managed to get 22 mm rains, Puducherry 16 mm, Karaikal 29 mm, Cuddalore 43 mm, Nagapattinam 9 mm and Atirrampattinam recorded 10 mm rain.

The reason behind this is presence of a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Comorin and neighboring areas in the Indian Ocean. An associated Cyclonic Circulation is also extending up to mid-tropospheric levels. Weather experts said this Well Marked Low Pressure Area could soon convert into a Deep Depression in the Arabian Sea & adjoining Lakshadweep area in the next 24 hours. Therefore moderate to heavy rainfall will continue over Tamil Nadu mainly Chennai during the next 24 - 48 hours. After that, the intensity will start reducing as the weather system will start moving westwards.

Scattered rainfall along with thunderstorms is also likely over Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
