The India Meteorological Department has given a ‘red signal’ with a forecast of “heavy to very heavy” rainfall in Mumbai and its nearby areas Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Nashik. As per the report, local train services have been resumed since morning, a day after several were delayed or canceled. Air travel has been hampered due to bad weather, 24 flights were grounded yesterday night and three resumed at 1 am.
As per weather forecast report, the Axis of Monsoon Trough passes through North Rajasthan, North Madhya Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh, North Odisha towards East-central Bay of Bengal.
In Central parts of the country, the Low-Pressure Area is over North Chhattisgarh and adjoining East Madhya Pradesh. The Axis of Monsoon trough is moving across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh then towards the Bay of Bengal.
This may bring heavy rains in many parts of West Madhya Pradesh, South Jharkhand, and North Maharashtra. It also predicts light to moderate rains to be seen over rest parts of the central parts of the country.
Heavy rains with decreased intensity will continue along the Maharashtra coast, as per the report. Mumbai may see heavy to very heavy rains. The intensity of rains will decrease but heavy rains will still be a sight.
Mumbai Police has already alerted with a tweet, “Dear Mumbaikars, Due to heavy rainfall forecast by IMD, the state government has declared a holiday for schools and junior colleges. We request Mumbaikars to please check the weather forecast and plan their day. Stay safe. #MumbaiRain.”
