Weather Forecast: North India to Receive Extremely Heavy Rainfall; Alert Issued in Many States

Isolated extremely heavy falls are very likely over Rajasthan and Gujarat state during 23rd-24th August, 2020. Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat state and Rajasthan during next 2- 3 days.

The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted light shower over the National Capital within the next 24 hours. Moreover, the Well Marked Low Pressure Area lies over Northwest Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood. It is very likely to move nearly westwards across Rajasthan during next 24 hours. The monsoon trough is active and south of its normal position. It is likely to remain active during next 2-3 days, says the weather department in its morning bulletin.

(i) Isolated extremely heavy falls are very likely over Rajasthan and Gujarat state during 23rd-24th August, 2020.

(ii) Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat state and Rajasthan during next 2-3 days. Due to likely formation of the Low Pressure Area over North Bay of Bengal around 24th August, 2020; rainfall activity is likely to increase over east & adjoining central India from 24th August. Isolated very heavy to extremely heavy falls very likely over Odisha during 24th-26th August, and very heavy falls over Gangetic West Bengal on 25th & 26th and over Jharkhand on 26th August.

Moderate thunderstorm accompanied with lightning at isolated places very likely over South Rajasthan, Bihar, Gujarat state, Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand during next 24 hours.

Maximum & Minimum Temperature

Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal while Minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Rajasthan; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Uttarakhand.
