The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in isolated locations across several regions of India. Areas expected to experience significant downpours include West Bengal, Sikkim, Telangana, Kerala, Mahe, Interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. These regions should prepare for local heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon continues its withdrawal across northern and central parts of India. The IMD has reported that the monsoon has completely retreated from Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and East Rajasthan. The current line of withdrawal passes through locations like Lakhimpur Kheri, Shivpuri, Kota, Udaipur, and Junagarh. Over the next 2-3 days, the monsoon is expected to retreat from remaining parts of West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and parts of Maharashtra.
In terms of weather systems, a cyclonic circulation has formed over southeast Bangladesh and nearby areas, with a trough extending from this system to the North Andaman Sea. This setup may lead to the formation of a low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal and its surrounding regions by October 4.
The weather outlook for East and Northeast India suggests widespread light to moderate rainfall throughout the week, with heavier rainfall expected in certain areas. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for the Northeast on October 2-3, while Gangetic West Bengal may experience heavy showers on October 4. Rainfall is expected to continue across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from October 6-8.
In South Peninsular India, widespread light to moderate rain is anticipated throughout Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu and coastal Karnataka are likely to experience heavy rain from October 2-6, with Kerala seeing heavy showers on October 2-3.
Central India will have isolated rainfall, particularly over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh towards the latter part of the week, while no significant rain is expected in Northwest and West India during this period.
Fishermen are advised to avoid the Northeast and east-central Bay of Bengal due to stormy weather, with wind speeds reaching 35-45 km/h, gusting up to 55 km/h from October 2-4.
