The National seminar held at B.P. Pal Auditorium at I.A.R.I. with group of farmers from M.P., Haryana and U.P was organized by National Horticulture Research & Development Foundation, New Delhi in collaboration with Division of Vegetable Science, ICAR-IARI, Pusa on 11th and 12th March, 2019 under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture, Dept. of Agriculture, Co-op. & Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers welfare. The seminar was organized to discuss production and post harvest technologies of onion, garlic and potato for uplifting the livelihood of farmers. It included technical sessions on topics like:

Strategic management of onion, garlic and potato and their export potential

Role of govt. schemes in uplifting livelihood of farmers through horticultural crops

Periurbanhorticulture: opportunities and challenges etc.
The programme was chaired by dignitaries like Dr. K.L. Chaddha, President, Horticulture Society of India, New Delhi, Shri H,K, Sharma, Dy. Director (Seed), NHRDF, New Delhi, Dr. B.S. Tomar, Head, Div. of Veg. Science, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi and many others.
Day 2 of the seminar begin with the lecture of Dr. Jagat Singh, National organic farming Centre, with the details about waste decomposer, how to use and its composition etc. Different questions and queries were also attended and contact details were also provided to farmers for future references.
The other lecture from NABARD explained how farmers can make an organisation and avail loan opportunities from govt. to set up small farmer agriculture consortium. And how to register FPO and get loans regarding it.
The other sessions also included Atma yojna from agriculture extensions service for farmers. Phone numbers for Kisaan call centre was provided. Sessions on different technologies and work on onion garlic potato was also elaborated along with landscaping, Marigold farming.
Mother dairy fruit and vegetable Pvt. ltd. was the part of the programme including SAFFAL. Dr. Harshwardhan Choudhary, Principal Scientist, Vegetable Science, presented seminar on protected cultivation in Peri urban area and potential of speciality Melon. Potential of Allium species by Dr. Sabina Islam and Okra was explained in detail by Dr. Yadav, both Principal Scientist, Div. of Vegetable Science, I.A.R.I.
Mr. Ashok Dalwai, IAS, Chairman, Committee of Doubling Farmers Income, Govt. of India was the Chief guest and concluded by vote of thanks by Dr. P.K.Gupta, Director (Acting), NHRDF, New Delhi.
