Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is set to launch a nationwide campaign, Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, scheduled to run from May 29 to June 12, 2025. A high-level meeting was held on May 12, 2025 in New Delhi with senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), where necessary guidelines were provided for the effective implementation of this initiative.

The campaign aims to create awareness among farmers about modern agricultural technologies and newly developed seed varieties. Chouhan officially announced the campaign during the National Conference on Agriculture – Kharif Campaign 2025, held in New Delhi on May 8, 2025.

Spanning 15 days, the campaign will cover 700 districts across the country and directly connect with approximately 1.5 crore farmers. To ensure deep and effective outreach, the Centre, in coordination with state governments, will form around 2,000 teams consisting of farm scientists, agricultural officers, and progressive farmers. Each team will conduct three meetings daily at the district level, collectively reaching out to nearly 10 to 12 lakh farmers every day.

Minister Chouhan highlighted that this campaign is a “sacred resolve” to fulfil the aspirations of India's food providers and a significant step toward building a prosperous and self-reliant agricultural sector.

The core objective is to enhance agricultural extension services, ensure the timely dissemination of lab-based innovations to the field, and ultimately improve the productivity and sustainability of major crops.

Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Lab to Land’ mantra, Chouhan remarked that the campaign exemplifies the vision by ensuring scientific advancements are not confined to laboratories but actively applied on farmlands.

He noted that never in independent India have so many agricultural scientists, 16,000 from ICAR and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), been mobilized collectively for a single initiative.

The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan aims not only to promote advanced agricultural techniques but also to transform Indian agriculture into a modern, resilient, and self-reliant sector—empowering farmers at the grassroots level and laying a strong foundation for a developed India.
