As the 15-day nationwide Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan comes to an end, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited Tigipur village on the outskirts of Delhi on June 11, 2025. During his visit, he engaged in direct conversations with farmers and reviewed agricultural practices at the grassroots level. The campaign, which aims to transform Indian agriculture through technology and policy outreach, will conclude tomorrow, June 12, 2025, in Bardoli, Gujarat.
During the visit, Chouhan actively engaged with farmers in a Kisan Chaupal, discussing advanced agricultural practices such as polyhouse farming, seed production, and strawberry cultivation. Impressed by the innovative efforts of farmers, he highlighted the importance of such practices in transforming Indian agriculture. A live demonstration of drone spraying technology was also showcased, emphasizing its cost-effectiveness and potential to scale across farms.
Chouhan stressed that agricultural research should no longer remain confined to laboratories but must reach farms through real-time feedback and collaboration with farmers. Over the past 15 days, 2,170 ICAR teams have interacted with farmers across the country, addressing local challenges and spreading awareness about technological advances. According to the Minister, this feedback will guide future policies and reforms in the sector.
Addressing declining soil fertility, Chouhan urged farmers to use Soil Health Cards and adopt sustainable crop choices. He further emphasized the need for crop diversification and market-oriented farming, particularly in regions like Delhi that have access to strong market linkages and potential for horticultural expansion.
Chouhan acknowledged that Delhi’s farmers had previously missed out on several central schemes but assured them of inclusion moving forward. He announced the implementation of various schemes in the capital, including PM-AASHA, the Price Support Scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and subsidies for greenhouses and agricultural equipment.
The Minister also warned against the sale of fake pesticides and fertilizers, promising strict action and upcoming legislation to protect farmers from exploitation. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to transform the agriculture sector under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
The campaign will conclude in Bardoli, Gujarat, where Chouhan will address farmers at the final event. So far, the initiative has directly reached nearly 1.08 crore farmers through extensive field-level engagement across India.
ICAR Secretary (DARE) and Director General Dr. M.L. Jat, along with other senior officials, accompanied the Minister during the visit.
