Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025: Ministry of Education has extended the registration deadline for the Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025, India’s largest-ever school hackathon, to October 11. This extension provides more students an opportunity to participate in this nationwide innovation movement. Originally, the registration process was scheduled to close on October 6.
The initiative is jointly organized by the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) under the Ministry of Education and Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) of NITI Aayog. It aims to nurture a generation of young innovators by offering hands-on, experiential learning aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Buildathon aims to engage over one crore students from 2.5 lakh schools across India, targeting students from classes 6 to 12. Participants will ideate, design, and develop creative prototypes under four key themes: Atmanirbhar Bharat, Swadeshi, Vocal for Local, and Samriddh Bharat.
Through this initiative, students will be encouraged to think critically about local and national challenges and create sustainable, innovative solutions. The hackathon is expected to play a key role in fostering a culture of innovation and problem-solving at the school level, transforming young learners into future change-makers for a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
Timeline and Key Dates
Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025 was officially launched on September 23 by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Following the extension, registrations will now remain open till October 11. Preliminary activities such as team formation, mentoring sessions, brainstorming, and idea camps will be conducted from October 11–12, while the Nationwide Synchronised Live Buildathon will take place on October 13, streamed live across participating schools.
Entries must be submitted between October 13 and October 31, 2025, after which evaluation by a panel of experts will continue till December 31. The winners will be announced and felicitated in January 2026.
How Students Can Participate
Participation is open to all school students from Classes 6 to 12 across the country. Teams must consist of 3 to 5 students from the same school, and there is no restriction on the number of teams a school can send.
To participate, schools need to register their teams on the official Buildathon portal vbb.mic.gov.in. Once registered, each team will receive a unique ID. Students must select one of the four themes, identify a relevant problem, and then design an innovative solution or prototype.
Teams will have to create a 2–5 minute video explaining the problem, their innovation, and its impact. These videos must be uploaded to the Buildathon portal within the submission window.
Mentorship and Support
Each participating team will receive dedicated mentorship from experts across incubation centres, higher education institutions, corporates, and the Mentor of Change network. The initiative places a special focus on Aspirational Districts, Tribal, and Remote Regions, ensuring inclusivity and equal participation from every corner of India.
The Buildathon will also feature district- and state-level innovation events, where schools and local communities will collaborate to promote creative solutions. A national-level live session will be streamed across schools and news platforms, allowing students to showcase their innovations to a larger audience.
Awards and Recognition
To encourage participation, the Ministry has announced an Awards Pool worth Rs 1 crore, with 10 national-level winners, 100 state-level winners, and 1,000 district-level winners. The top-performing teams will also receive long-term mentorship, corporate support, and resources to further develop their projects beyond the competition.
