Due to favourable environmental conditions and efforts of progressive farmers, the Himachal Pradesh state has attained a special fame in production of off-season vegetables like tomato, green peas, beans, cabbage, cauliflower, potato and cucumber.
The Government of Himachal Pradesh has taken every possible step to chalk out a solution for the problems faced by farmers amid lockdown.
The farmers of the state were able to get remunerative prices for their produce, due to the vital role played in communication and marketing of vegetables by State Agriculture Department. As per reports, around 6.82 lakh quintals of peas, cauliflower and other off-season vegetables have been sent to neighbouring states during this pandemic period.
Kisan Rath app helped in sustaining supply chains
Kisan Rath mobile app facilitated farmers, FPOs and traders across India to search and contact stakeholders for the smooth functioning of supply chain.
The app acted as an interface between major transport aggregators and allowed individual transporters to register their vehicles and provide services to farmers and traders.
As per news from CMO, Himachal Pradesh, around 35,164 quintal seeds of rice, maize, sorghum, bajra and other such seeds were made available to farmers at subsidised rate through Agriculture Distribution Centres. Besides this, 11,315 quintal vegetables seeds were also made available in different districts.
Government established around 60 market yards and 41 collection centres for farmers amid pandemic
State Government took effective steps for easy availability of plant protection products and agricultural tools at subsidized rates to the farmers. A dedicated room has been established by Agriculture Department, for facilitating farmers. Around, 60 market yards and 41 collection centres were also established for the easy collection and sale of produce of farmers. These steps helped in preventing the major economic losses to the farmers.
