The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has officially declared the results of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025. Conducted on May 25, the highly competitive exam saw participation from around 10 lakh aspirants across the country. Out of these, 14,161 candidates have successfully cleared the prelims stage and are now eligible to appear for the Civil Services (Main) Examination.
The results, published on June 11, are available in both name-wise and roll number-wise formats on the UPSC’s official websites: upsc.gov.in and upsconline.nic.in. The candidature at this stage is provisional and subject to further verification of eligibility criteria.
The preliminary examination, held in two shifts, included General Studies Paper 1 and General Studies Paper 2 (CSAT), each of two-hour duration. The UPSC has also released the question papers for reference.
Mains Exam Begins August 22
The next phase, the UPSC Civil Services Mains Examination 2025, is scheduled to begin on August 22. The mains consist of nine descriptive papers, two of which are qualifying in nature. These papers are designed to evaluate a candidate’s intellectual depth, analytical ability, and general awareness, rather than mere factual knowledge.
According to UPSC guidelines, candidates will have to answer questions that test their understanding of relevant issues, ability to critically analyze, and present logical and meaningful responses, all key attributes for a successful civil servant.
Personality Test and Evaluation Criteria
Those who qualify the written mains exam will move on to the final stage, the Personality Test (Interview). A board of impartial experts will assess the candidate’s suitability for public service, focusing on traits such as mental alertness, critical thinking, judgment balance, leadership qualities, and integrity.
Detailed Application Form (DAF): Submission from June 16–25
To appear for the mains, candidates must fill out the Detailed Application Form (DAF) between June 16 and June 25, 2025. The form requires:
-
Payment of Rs 200 (Exempted for SC/ST, PwBD, and female candidates)
-
Submission of scribe and assistive device details (if applicable)
-
Upload of gazette notification (for name change cases)
The DAF is divided into six sections: Personal, Educational, Parental, Employment, Document Upload, and Final Submission. Registration details such as name, roll number, date of birth, and email ID are mandatory for creating an account to access the form.
This year, the UPSC aims to fill 979 vacancies in prestigious services like the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.
