The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the results for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) Preliminary round on July 1, 2024. Candidates who participated in the examination can now check and download their scorecards from the official UPSC website, upsc.gov.in.
The CSE Prelims 2024 was held on June 16, with the results being released just two weeks later. This is a slight delay compared to last year when the exam took place on May 26 and the results were declared on June 12.
The Preliminary Examination is divided into two objective-type papers, General Studies Paper 1 and Paper 2, totaling 400 marks. Each question is multiple-choice, with four possible answers. Importantly, the scores from the Preliminary Examination do not contribute to the final ranking of the candidates who move on to the Main Examination.
To qualify for the Civil Services (Main) Examination, candidates must achieve a minimum of 33% in General Studies Paper-II and meet the overall qualifying marks in General Studies Paper-I as set by the Commission. Negative marking is applied for incorrect answers, with one-third of the marks assigned to the question deducted for each wrong response. If a candidate marks more than one answer for a question, it will be considered incorrect, and the penalty will be applied.
Candidates who pass the Preliminary Examination will be eligible to sit for the Main Examination, which consists of a written exam and a personality test. The UPSC CSE Mains 2024 is tentatively scheduled to begin on September 20.
