The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, conducted a meeting to evaluate the damage caused by unexpected rain and hailstorm in nine districts of the state within the past day. During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the relief commissioner to examine the crops that had been destroyed and make arrangements for compensating the affected farmers.
Additionally, the Chief Minister announced that the regulations for purchasing wheat crops that had been damaged by the rain would be eased.
The relevant authorities have been instructed to evaluate the crops of farmers who have been impacted by unexpected rain or hailstorms. The government will acquire crops that are vulnerable to damage at the minimum support price.A proposal will be created to modify regulations as necessary.
Meteorologists have noted that the hailstorm could potentially harm not only the wheat crops but also pulses and oilseeds. They predict that comparable weather conditions could persist for the next two to three days, and as such, appropriate measures need to be taken to monitor the situation.
To address this concern, the Uttar Pradesh government has instructed officials to promptly implement "Early Warning Systems" to deliver accurate and timely weather forecasts to farmers, enabling them to make preparations in advance.
CM Yogi Adityanath also suggested that weather forecasts should be made available to remote villages via TV, newspapers, and local administration for a duration of 24-48 hours.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister has directed that in the event of any tragic deaths resulting from a natural calamity or injuries caused by human-wildlife conflict, the victim's family should be contacted without delay. Financial aid from the Disaster Relief Fund should be provided to them, starting from the Relief Commissioner level.
In addition, the Chief Minister has raised apprehensions about a potential scarcity of straw this year owing to the projected damage to wheat crops. Therefore, the Animal Husbandry Department has been instructed to make prompt arrangements for cattle fodder to address this concern.
