On Tuesday, Governor Anandiben Patel inaugurated two new medical facilities at King George's Medical University in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The facilities included an X-ray radiator at the transfusion medicine department and an intervention radiology ward at the radiology department. The governor's visit to the university was aimed at improving the quality of medical services and promoting healthy lifestyles for patients.
During her address, the governor expressed concern about the negative impact of modern lifestyles on people's health. She noted that people are increasingly consuming more western foods, which can have adverse effects on their health.
She emphasized the importance of eating healthy, nutritious foods to maintain good health and prevent diseases. The governor also stated that in 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the International Millet Year to raise awareness about the health benefits of millets.
Millet is a group of small-seeded grains that are grown in arid and semi-arid regions of the world. They are rich in nutrients such as fiber, calcium, and iron, and have been shown to be effective in treating malnutrition and other diseases. Governor Patel recommended that women and daughters should include millets such as Jowar, Bajra, Chana, Ragi, Sawan, Kangni, Cheena, Kodo, Kutki, and Kuttu in their diet to improve their health.
The governor also commended the community radio station of the university, Radio Goonj, on completing one year of operations. She praised the station for its efforts to provide health-related information and awareness to the local community in simple language.
Governor Patel suggested that the station should expand its outreach programs to broadcast health-related information and awareness daily, especially to people who are economically disadvantaged.
Governor Patel's emphasis on the importance of nutritious foods and millets for good health and her suggestion to expand outreach programs for health-related information and awareness are important steps towards achieving these goals.
