Unseasonal rainfall in different parts of integrated Karimnagar district of Telangana on 26th and 27th January has caused widespread damages to various standing crops resulting in huge loss to the farmers.
Despite the fact that the showers had bought some relief to the farmers who had cultivated paddy, it crushed the dreams of maize as well as mango growers. The maize crop was totally flattened because of the nonstop rains and thus the mango plants which were growing with flowers were badly damaged.
According to the preliminary reports available with the agricultural department, the maize crop was spoiled in more than 160 acres in Gangadhara, Choppadandi and Manakondur mandals. In the same way, the crop was also damaged in several hundreds of acres in Rajanna-Sircilla, Jagtial and Peddapalli districts. The fully blooming mango orchards which were at the flowering phase were badly damaged in Rajanna-Sircilla, Karimnagar and Jagtial districts.
Illanthakunta in Rajanna-Sircilla had recorded 7.6 centimeter rainfall. Around 4.6 centimeter rainfall was recorded in Sarangapur mandal in Jagtial while 4.1 at Boinpalli mandal in Rajanna-Sircilla district. In Karimnagar district, Thimmapur mandal received 5 centimeter rainfall on 26th January and the district average was 2 cm.
