Union Minister Parshottam Rupala Charts Course for Fisheries Growth: Sagar Parikrama Phase-X Unveils Transformative Measures in Andhra Pradesh

The fourth day of Sagar Parikrama in Andhra Pradesh showcased a commitment to the holistic development of the fisheries sector, with a focus on economic empowerment and inclusive growth.

Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Parshottam Rupala, accompanied by MoS Dr. L Murugan, spearheaded the fourth day of the Sagar Parikrama Phase-X at Uppada Fishing Harbour in the East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. The event aimed at engaging with beneficiaries and addressing key aspects of fisheries production and development. During the event, Rupala emphasized the need to focus on increasing fisheries production, productivity, and associated activities, including infrastructure development, marketing, exports, and institutional arrangements.

The beneficiaries were felicitated with Kisan Credit Cards and valuable assets such as four-wheelers under the PMMSY scheme. Beneficiaries actively participated, sharing their ground-level experiences and success stories. The interactive session provided an opportunity for Union Minister Rupala and other dignitaries to understand the challenges faced by fisherfolk and related stakeholders.

Extending Support in Visakhapatnam

Continuing the mission, Rupala and other dignitaries moved to Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbour to interact with fishermen, coastal communities, and stakeholders. Asset distribution, certificates related to the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada scheme, and Kisan Credit Cards were awarded to progressive fishermen and fish farmers.

Strengthening the Fisheries Ecosystem

Addressing the local representatives, Rupala discussed issues and opportunities, urging volunteers to create awareness of schemes like PMMSY. He highlighted the scheme's aim to enhance fish production through modern technology and scientific methods.

Inclusive Growth and Women's Participation

Acknowledging the significant assistance received by Andhra Pradesh from the Government of India, Rupala emphasized the comprehensive coverage of all places and people belonging to the fisheries community during Sagar Parikrama. He applauded the high participation of women and emphasized their role in all aspects of fisheries and aquaculture.

Positive Impact and Extensive Reach

MoS Dr. L. Murugan informed about major initiatives, including KCC camps and teams for grievance redressal and technical inspections. The event witnessed substantial success, with approximately 8,400 physical attendees and live streaming on various platforms.

The fisheries sector, emerging as a sunrise sector, holds immense potential for equitable and inclusive growth. Sagar Parikrama plays a pivotal role in disseminating information, promoting responsible fisheries, and demonstrating solidarity with fisherfolks and stakeholders.
