Today on March 09, 2024 Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Agriculture, and Farmers Welfare, Arjun Munda, inaugurated the three-day National Dairy Mela and Agricultural Exhibition in Chaibasa, located in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. Dairy Mela serves as a critical platform for introducing the latest advancements in dairy science to farmers, emphasizing the importance of adopting scientific methodologies to enhance milk production across the nation.
In his inaugural address, Arjun Munda noted the significance of this event in promoting agricultural development, particularly in regions like Kolhan, which have historically lagged behind in agricultural progress. Expressing his commitment to advancing agricultural initiatives in the area, he announced plans to establish a center of the National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, in Kolhan, aimed at boosting milk production and supporting local farmers.
Highlighting the crucial role played by farmers in strengthening the nation's economy, Arjun Munda urged them to leverage government schemes such as PM Fasal Bima and PM Kisan Samridhi. He also visited various stalls set up by Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) and interacted with local farmers, acknowledging their contributions to making India self-reliant in food production.
Dr. Dhir Singh, Director of National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, emphasized the transformative potential of the event in fostering innovation in livestock production management and dairy processing. This aligns with the vision of achieving a developed India by 2047, as envisioned by the Prime Minister.
The exhibition, attended by over 6,000 stakeholders including cattle rearers, farmers, entrepreneurs, students, and government officials, showcases technologies developed by research institutes and district-level departments. More than 50 exhibition stalls feature agricultural technologies, livestock, and various animals, offering insights into the latest advancements in farming practices.
In addition to showcasing innovative technologies, the event facilitates farmer-scientist dialogues and seminars to disseminate knowledge on modern agricultural and animal husbandry practices. The participation of farmers from different blocks and villages of West Singhbhum district underscores the widespread enthusiasm for embracing agricultural advancements.
Recognizing the achievements of farmers in areas such as vegetable production, crop management, and dairy processing, the event includes rewards to boost morale and encourage further excellence. Moreover, under the Scheduled Tribe Sub-Plan, efforts are underway to provide material technology to farmers to enhance agricultural knowledge and practices.
Attending the opening event were notable figures including Geeta Koda, Member of Parliament from West Singhbhum district, agricultural scientists, FPO representatives, and farmers. Organized by ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana, the Dairy Fair and Agricultural Exhibition will continue until March 11, 2024, aiming to foster comprehensive development in livestock and agriculture in tribal areas.
