In a significant stride towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, inaugurated the portal for registration, purchase, and payment of tur-producing farmers across India. The launch, coupled with a national symposium on self-reliance in pulses, aimed to bolster the agricultural sector, particularly benefiting tur dal producers.
Empowering Tur Dal Producers
The initiative focuses on empowering tur dal producers by ensuring fair prices through streamlined procurement processes. National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED) and National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Ltd. (NCCF) will facilitate direct bank transfers to farmers, enhancing their financial well-being and reducing import dependence.
Transparent Procurement Process
Registered farmers on the NAFED and NCCF portals will witness procurement based on the Department of Consumer Affairs guidelines. The farmers will receive either the Minimum Support Price (MSP) or the prevailing market price, ensuring equitable compensation.
Streamlined Registration and Payments
The portal offers a unified platform for registration, purchase, and payments, accessible directly or through Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). NAFED will ensure seamless fund transfers, eliminating intermediary agencies. Farmers will have direct visibility into the process, from registration to payment.
Nationwide Impact and Import Reduction
The initiative, operational in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Jharkhand, aims to procure 80 percent of the buffer stock directly from farmers. This strategic move seeks to bolster domestic production, guaranteeing food security and mitigating import reliance.
A Vision for Agricultural Transformation
The launch of the Tur Dal Procurement Portal aligns with the government's comprehensive strategy for a new green revolution. By integrating pulses and oilseeds with staple crops like wheat and rice, it charts a sustainable path for Indian agriculture. This holistic approach ensures the self-reliance of millions of farmers across various food categories.
The multilingual portal (e-samridhi.in) signifies a pivotal link between farmers, NAFED, and concerned government departments, facilitating seamless operations and accessibility.
The inauguration marks a milestone towards realizing the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' vision, promising a brighter future for Indian agriculture and millions of farming communities striving for self-reliance in food production.
