Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a high-level meeting in Delhi on September 01, 2025, to review the current agricultural situation across the country. During the meeting, he received detailed updates on rainfall patterns in various states and assessed the impact of recent floods on crops, particularly in Punjab.
Shivraj Singh assured Punjab’s farmers that the Central Government stands firmly with those affected by natural disasters and emphasized that there is no need for concern. He announced plans to personally visit flood-affected areas in Punjab in the coming days to meet with farmers and offer support.
Senior officials, including Union Agriculture Secretary Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, presented a comprehensive report highlighting a promising increase in the Kharif crop sowing area compared to last year. The meeting also covered progress in horticulture, with special focus on potato, onion, and tomato production and pricing.
Officials noted that many states have experienced above-average rainfall this year, leading to replenished reservoirs and favorable conditions for crops.
Minister Chouhan directed officials to promote integrated farming and horticulture alongside traditional food crops to enhance farmer incomes and ensure sustainable agricultural growth. He also called for extensive awareness campaigns to popularize the Integrated Farming Model among farmers.
