During the talks, India and Norway reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in sustainable ocean governance. The ministers highlighted the need for joint efforts to address overfishing, marine pollution and the sustainable use of marine resources. They also discussed improving data sharing and deepening scientific collaboration.
Both sides stressed the importance of international partnerships in advancing the goals of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030), with a focus on knowledge exchange, capacity building and technology transfer.
India and Norway have a long-standing partnership in the fisheries sector and are now exploring new areas of collaboration to promote a sustainable and inclusive blue economy. The talks in Nice come at a time when global efforts to balance economic growth and marine conservation are gaining momentum.
The UNOC3, which runs from June 9 to 13, has brought together world leaders, scientists and policymakers to chart a path for ocean health, sustainable development and climate resilience. Led by Dr Singh, India is pushing for stronger global action on ocean health, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods at the UN Ocean Conference.
