Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free online document updates in Aadhaar until June 14, 2026, giving millions of Aadhaar holders additional time to update their Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) details without any charge.
Originally set to end on June 14, 2025, the free document upload service, available only through the myAadhaar portal, is now accessible for another year, encouraging users to keep their information accurate and up to date.
Earlier, UIDAI charged Rs 50 for each online update, and the free service was set to end on June 14, 2025. However, with this one-year extension, millions stand to benefit, especially those whose information may have changed due to marriage, relocation, or other life events.
UIDAI’s decision is part of its broader efforts to maintain a clean and reliable Aadhaar database while easing the process for citizens to manage their identity documents. The authority has emphasized the importance of “document hygiene,” aiming to promote timely and accurate updates that are essential for accessing a range of government services.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), UIDAI said, “UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th June 2026; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on myAadhaar portal. UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar.”
To use the service, Aadhaar holders can log in to the myAadhaar portal and upload their PoI and PoA documents in formats like JPEG, PNG, or PDF, each file not exceeding 2 MB. The portal offers a simple and user-friendly interface, accommodating people with varying levels of digital experience.
However, updates related to biometrics, mobile numbers, email addresses, or photographs still require a physical visit to an Aadhaar Enrollment/Update Centre and are subject to standard fees.
