Amid growing cases of covid-19 pandemic everywhere, Chinese Researchers have find-out something interesting to share with the world.As we know that India is known as the land of spice and myths across the globe.Aficionados of Indian food already know about the medicinal properties of turmeric or haldi. As per the new report, Chinese researchers have found that a natural compound found in this commonly used kitchen spice could help eliminate certain viruses.
According the study published in the Journal of General Virology, this compound in turmeric, called “curcumin”, can prevent Transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) -- an alpha-group coronavirus that infects pigs -- from further infecting the cells.On highdoses, this compound has the potential to kill virus particles.
In order to check the potential antiviral properties of curcumin, the research group treated experimental cells with different concentrations of the compound, before trying to infect them with TGEV. It was found that higher concentrations of this compound reduced the number of virus particles in the cell culture.
