National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Limited (NCCF) will begin selling tomatoes at ₹60 per kilogram in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) starting from Monday, July 29, 2024 to curb the increasing prices. This initiative is set to be implemented across various locations, including both static retail stores and mobile vans, to ensure widespread accessibility for consumers.
The designated static retail stores include Rajiv Chowk Metro Store, Patel Chowk Metro Store, and Nehru Place. Additionally, mobile vans will distribute tomatoes in numerous areas such as Krishi Bhawan, CGO Complex, Lodhi Colony, Hauz Khas Head Office, Parliament Street, INA Market, Mandi House, Kailash Colony, I.T.O and More.
NCCF's primary goal with this initiative is to provide tomatoes at a reduced price, thereby assisting consumers in managing their household budgets amidst the recent surge in food prices. NCCF aims to offer relief to consumers by stabilizing the market and mitigating the impact of price hikes caused by disruptions in supply chains due to adverse weather conditions.
Tomato prices have seen a dramatic rise over the past weeks, with the all-India average price recorded at ₹73.76 per kilogram on July 20, 2024. In Delhi, the prices recently surged to over ₹100 per kilogram due to heavy rains affecting supplies. The NCCF's initiative is expected to bring much-needed relief by making tomatoes available at a more affordable rate.
With this move, the NCCF anticipates a positive response from the public, as the lowered prices will enable more households to purchase tomatoes without straining their finances. This initiative is part of a broader effort to combat food inflation and ensure the availability of essential commodities at reasonable prices.
For more updates and information, consumers can follow NCCF on social media or visit their official website. The proactive approach by NCCF demonstrates a commitment to addressing food price inflation and supporting consumers in Delhi NCR.
