Governor R.N. Ravi has assigned Professor V. Geethalakshmi as Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) on March 28, 2022.
According to a communique issued by Raj Bhavan on Monday, the Governor has appointed her for a three-year term beginning on the date she takes office. She would be the University's first female Vice-Chancellor.
Ms. Geethalakshmi has teaching experience for 26 years and has mentored over 14 doctoral research academics. Her efforts had contributed to the University signing 11 memoranda of understanding with various international and national institutions.
She had also assisted in developing eight new technologies and new varieties of 3 crops.
Speaking of her academic accomplishments, Prof. Geethalakshmi has completed 115 research publications in peer-reviewed publications and journals. According to a press release from Raj Bhavan, she has authored about 11 books and has successfully completed 33 projects of research. She has been to around 30 different countries for research purposes.
Prof. Geethalakshmi stated that she is the first woman in the country to be designated as the Vice-Chancellor of an agricultural university. She also said that her goal is to assist and guide the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University to achieve greatness.

The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) began in the year 1868, established at the Agricultural School in Saidapet, but later it got relocated to Madras, Tamil Nadu, and eventually to Coimbatore. It was affiliated with Madras University in 1920. TNAU assumed full responsibility for Agricultural Education and Research and provided research products to the State Agricultural Department.
