Pabhojan Gold Tea, a rare variety of organic tea from Assam's Golaghat district, was auctioned at a whopping 1 lakh per kilogram by an auction center in Jorhat on Monday, the highest price this year.
The tea supplied by Pabhojan Organic Tea Estate was purchased by Esah Tea, an Assam-based tea brand, according to a Jorhat Tea Auction Centre (JTAC) official.
Pabhojan Gold Tea is created from the second-best flush tips plucked from the tea plantation and has a beautiful golden beverage with a relaxing aftertaste. The tips turn golden and give the drink a color. Bijit Sarma, the CEO of Esah Tea, said the tea variety will help them give one of the best tea blends from Assam to its customers.
This tea variety is unique, and it is an experience in a cup for tea lovers. Our consumers, who are located all over the world, will appreciate the flavour and value of this variety. We are pleased to be able to continue our mission of providing authentic Assam tea flavours to them," he added.
"We produced just one kilogram of this rare type of tea and are happy at this new record-breaking price, which has created history," said Pabhojan Organic Tea Estate owner Rakhi Dutta Saikia. The price it fetched would help the Assam Tea sector reclaim its lost shine," she added.
According to Saikia, this variety was manufactured for the first time in response to increasing demand from discerning consumers, tea connoisseurs, and buyers for this sort of premium quality speciality tea.
