Textile, Tourism, and Technology Will Drive India's Future Growth: PM Modi at GIS 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Global Investors Summit 2025 in Bhopal, highlighting Madhya Pradesh’s transformation into a key investment hub. He emphasized the state's rapid infrastructure, energy, and industrial growth, urging investors to seize new opportunities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Global Investors Summit (GIS) 2025 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, emphasizing the state's pivotal role in India's agricultural and industrial sectors. The summit highlighted Madhya Pradesh's immense investment potential, especially in agriculture, agro-industry, and renewable energy. Welcoming global investors and business leaders to the land of Raja Bhoj, Modi asserted that a developed Madhya Pradesh is crucial for realizing the vision of a developed India.

Highlighting the world's growing confidence in India, Modi cited recent international endorsements. The World Bank predicted India’s continued position as the fastest-growing economy, while the OECD stated, "The future of the world is in India." Additionally, a UN climate body recognized India as a solar power superpower. He noted that India’s emergence as a key player in global supply chains, particularly in aerospace, reflects this rising confidence.

PM Modi highlighted Madhya Pradesh's economic potential, describing it as one of India's top agricultural and mineral-rich states, blessed with the life-giving Narmada River. He envisioned MP among the top five Indian states by GDP. Tracing the state’s transformation over two decades, he recalled past struggles with infrastructure and law enforcement, which once deterred investment. Today, MP ranks among the leading investment destinations, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. By January 2025, the state had registered around two lakh EVs, reflecting a 90% growth.

With a robust agricultural base, Madhya Pradesh stands as the cotton capital of India, contributing around 25% of the country’s organic cotton supply. The state is also the largest producer of mulberry silk and home to the famous Chanderi and Maheshwari sarees, which hold GI tags. Modi highlighted that increased investments in this sector could further strengthen India's textile industry and boost rural employment. The government has launched initiatives like the PM MITRA scheme, under which seven textile parks, including one in Madhya Pradesh, are being developed to elevate the sector.

Water security remains a cornerstone for agricultural and industrial development. The Prime Minister highlighted the Rs 45,000 crore Ken-Betwa River Interlinking Project, which will enhance irrigation for 10 lakh hectares of agricultural land and support sustainable water management. This initiative, alongside various water conservation efforts, is expected to significantly improve productivity in Madhya Pradesh’s farmlands, ensuring better yields and stable incomes for farmers.

Energy security was another focal point, with Modi highlighting India's Rs 5 trillion investment in renewable energy over the past decade, generating over 10 lakh jobs. MP has significantly benefited, boasting a power generation capacity of 31,000 MW, with 30% sourced from clean energy. He mentioned major projects like the Rewa Solar Park and the floating solar plant in Omkareshwar. Additionally, a Rs 50,000 crore investment in the Bina Refinery Petrochemical Complex is set to position MP as a petrochemical hub. These advancements will not only ensure energy security for farmers but also facilitate the expansion of agro-industries.

Infrastructure plays a pivotal role in the state’s economic growth. Modi highlighted the connectivity boost with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway passing through Madhya Pradesh, enhancing access to major markets. Additionally, the state's road network now exceeds five lakh kilometers, and its railway system has achieved 100% electrification. These developments are crucial for the transportation of agricultural produce, reducing post-harvest losses and improving market linkages for farmers.

Discussing the government's economic reforms, Modi reiterated his commitment to accelerating development in his third term. He highlighted the Union Budget’s focus on middle-class empowerment, tax reforms, and reduced interest rates. 

Recognizing the importance of MSMEs in local supply chains, the government has improved MSME policies, making access to credit easier and enhancing support for value addition and exports. This is particularly beneficial for agri-based MSMEs, which can leverage these opportunities to scale operations and enter global markets. The de-regulation initiatives, which have eliminated 40,000 compliances and 1,500 obsolete laws, further ease the business environment for small and medium agribusinesses.

Madhya Pradesh’s food processing sector is set for expansion, with special investment zones being developed in Pithampur, Ratlam, and Dewas. These zones provide a conducive environment for setting up agro-processing industries, ensuring better returns for farmers by enhancing value addition to raw produce. The government’s support for this sector aligns with its vision of doubling farmers' income through technological advancements and market access.

Tourism, particularly agro and wellness tourism, is another area of potential growth. Modi highlighted the state’s efforts in developing tourism infrastructure, including initiatives around the Narmada River and tribal areas. He noted that the ‘Heal in India’ mantra is gaining traction globally, creating opportunities for investment in health and wellness tourism, which can complement agritourism and boost rural economies.

The Prime Minister reiterated that now is the right time for investment in Madhya Pradesh, urging stakeholders to seize the opportunities presented by the state’s rapidly evolving agricultural and industrial landscape.

The Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav were present among other dignitaries at the event.
