Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently launched the ambitious "Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam" scheme at Macharam village in Nagarkurnool district, aiming to bring a significant transformation in the lives of tribal farmers. Under this scheme, tribal farmers will receive free solar pumps ranging from 5 to 7.5 horsepower to support the irrigation of horticultural crops, particularly in remote areas lacking access to conventional electricity.

The scheme was inaugurated through a pilot project that covers 45 acres and benefits 45 tribal families in Macharam village. Addressing the event, the Chief Minister stated that these families were among those neglected during the previous government and are now set to benefit from the current administration’s inclusive policies. The initiative aims to distribute solar pumps across the entire Achampet Assembly constituency within the next 100 days.

Targeting 2.1 lakh tribal farmers, the scheme plans to bring irrigation facilities to six lakh acres of Rights of Forest Records (RoFR) land over five years, from 2025-26 to 2029-30. The state government will fund the entire project, with a total financial outlay of Rs 13,200 crore.

In the first year alone, Rs 600 crore will be allocated to irrigate 27,000 acres, benefiting 10,000 farmers. Over the subsequent four years, Rs 12,600 crore will be invested. Each solar pump, costing Rs 6 lakh, will be fully subsidized by the government.

During the launch event, the Chief Minister also unveiled the 12-point ‘Nallamala Declaration’, which outlines various developmental initiatives for tribal communities residing in forest areas. The Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam scheme is a vital component of this broader vision to empower tribal populations through sustainable agricultural practices.

The Chief Minister directed officials to prepare plans for setting up solar power plants through women's self-help groups, enabling them to generate additional income and contribute to the state’s renewable energy goals.
