Chennai will host a 3-day food festival at the Island Grounds on 12, 13 and 14 August 2022. The festival, which is being organized by the Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department together with Eat Right India, will also include a walkathon on the last day.

Eat Right India is a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) initiative to improve public health in India and combat negative nutritional trends in order to combat lifestyle diseases.

According to the organizers, the 'Singara Chennai Food Festival 2022' will also feature a variety of cultural events. The festival will feature performances by folk artists from across the state.

According to the organizers, the food festival will also provide an opportunity for women's self-help groups to showcase their culinary skills. This festival will feature a wide variety of traditional food items, ranging from Raagi Puttu to Mudakathan Dosai. The food festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on all three days, according to officials.

Dr. Satheesh Kumar, designated food safety officer in Chennai, informed that the event was supposed to take place last year but was postponed due to the pandemic.

"In 2019, we organized a similar food festival called Madrasapattinam Food Festival." Almost 90% of the items in this festival will be traditional food items. It will resemble a food expo. We designed the food festival to be similar to those held in the districts. This time, approximately 150 stalls will be set up. We intend to keep around ten stalls for women's self-help groups. "The food festival will feature several prominent personalities," Kumar said.

Children will also demonstrate their culinary skills at the festival. The officer stated that admission will be free for visitors and that all famous eateries, including Tirunelveli's Iruttu Kadai Halwa, will have stalls at the food festival.
