Tackling Water Shortage with Solar Power

Water and its management is the biggest challenge that India faces today. Nearly 600 million people, half of the country’s population, are facing high to extreme water stress. About 70 per cent of the water is contaminated. And by 2030, India’s demand for water is likely to become double of the available water supply.

Water and its management is the biggest challenge that India faces today. Nearly 600 million people, half of the country’s population, are facing high to extreme water stress. About 70 per cent of the water is contaminated. And by 2030, India’s demand for water is likely to become double of the available water supply.

The effect of this scenario could be adverse on India’s economy, with some experts forecasting a massive 6 per cent loss in the country’s GDP because of the same. Needless to say, major interventions are needed immediately to make the use of water sustainable, efficient and guided by a deeper understanding of how our water resources can effectively be managed for future generations. Join the conversation and make a difference.

To ensure access to water for all, India needs to look at new ways to obtain and sustain usable water. Solar technology plays a big role in this.

Tackling Water Shortage with Solar Power

  • The United States is using a water generation technology powered by solar energy. This technology creates potable water out of air using nothing but salt and solar power.

  • Israel, a global leader in desalination, is leveraging a low-cost, scalable, and eco-friendly technology which uses only the power of the sun to purify seawater.

  • Saudi Arabia has launched a major solar power initiative that will cut the cost of water production by 40 percent.

With India facing its worst water shortage in history, it’s time to push for sustainable water development immediately. Become a part of this revolution.  Participate or visit Water India Expo starting from 22 to 24 May, 2019 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India.
