Farmers of the country's largest sugarcane producer are not happy with the delayed action of state's sugar mills, as they are still holding the piling up of sugarcane arrears. An amount of more than Rs. 11,000 crore is yet to be paid by sugar mills to the farmers of the state. Farmer's condition in India is not just the question for their community but also is the question to the government.
Decreasing rate of sugar is being reasoned by the state sugar mill association, to its incapability to not to be able to clear the dues sufficiently and expeditiously within the time. According to the officials of the state cane department, cane dues are approx Rs. 10657 crore, which is leading the farmers' group to the warn of movement and protest within the state.
After the state government's failure to get the sugar mills to clear their due within the promised duration, the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), the biggest and most influential farmers' body and the Bhartiya Kisan Mazdoor Manch (BKMM) have intimidated protest in every district of the state.
The arrears will soon cross the due amount to Rs. 12,000 crore and the government is yet to come up with any solution. Such irresponsibility leads to the reason for the incident of farmers' suicide. Recently a farmer in Saharanpur attempted suicide after getting the recovery notice by the local bank and such incidents will be continued if the government won't come up with a reasonable solution.
However according to the government officials, regarding this concern they are acting against sugar mills, which are not paying the farmers. District administrations are issuing notices and taking actions against the defaulter sugar mills. To deal with the crisis the government is planning about a whole new range of solutions, which can provide subsidy and reduce the GST to the sugarcane farmers
If the sugar mills in the state will keep on making false promises and won't come up with the better solution within the time, then the sugarcane farmers are not so far to call a protest against the state sugar mills.
