Recognizing these workers' efforts, the Furniture and Fitting Skill Council (FFSC), working under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in collaboration with the NDMC jurisdiction and NARSI Group, has trained and certified 910 carpenters through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme.
The initiative aims to improve carpenters' skill training and enable them to contribute to the creation of world-class infrastructure for the New Parliament Building, which will embody India's growth and democratic principles.
Senior officials and industry stakeholders attended the event, which was organized at the parliament and attended by Dr. K.K Dwivedi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE); Deepak Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA); Ashwini Mittal, NPB, Central Public Works Department (CPWD); Sushil Aggarwal, Director, National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET); and Vivek Sharma (NSDC).
RPL is a component of Skill India's flagship scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), and is an evaluation procedure used to evaluate a person's existing skill sets, knowledge, and experience earned through formal, non-formal, or informal learning.
Pre-screening coaching, counselling, and support will be offered as part of the programme to ensure the candidates' overall improvement. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) provides numerous programmes to various government entities in order to fulfil skill development initiatives. Previously, the government and the NARSI group taught around 6,000 carpenters under various RPL initiatives.
The method aids in aligning the competencies of the country's unregulated workforce with the standardized National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) to improve employability and close the skill gap. Today's event marks an important step in empowering our carpenters by providing them with the best hands-on training and formal certification, which will allow for the identification of skill sets and aid in the establishment of a top-of-the-line infrastructure in the New Parliament Building.

To improve candidates' formal skill training, we have implemented many programmes such as Meri Skill Meri Pehchan, the National Apprenticeship Promotional Scheme (NAPS), and established a Centre of Excellence to help them become active participants in economic growth. With this, we hope to certify and recognise the skills of 25,000 carpenters across India in the coming months, he added.
The project's goal is to certify individuals in order to boost their relevance in the dynamic employment market and to motivate them to contribute to nation-building. Workers will be trained in a variety of trades in the future, including construction, electrical, plumbing, pottery, and others. It will not only introduce students to digital literacy and entrepreneurial options, but it will also help them improve their technical abilities.
