Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be in Karnataka on Friday, August 29, to participate in a series of programmes focused on strengthening agriculture and livestock development. His day-long visit will begin in Mysuru, where he will attend the 110th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji at Suttur Math. On this occasion, he will take part in a tree plantation drive and interact with devotees before travelling to Bengaluru.

In Bengaluru, Minister will visit key institutions under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). At the National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources (NBAIR), he will plant trees, tour National Insect Museum and Live Insect Repository, and view exhibitions showcasing NBAIR’s work on biological pest control and other related technologies.

The visit will also focus on National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (NIVEDI), where Chouhan will review the institute’s activities and interact with farmers, livestock rearers, scientists, and startup entrepreneurs.

NIVEDI plays an important role in disease surveillance and national control programmes for PPR, Brucellosis, CSF, FMD, and LSD. It is also engaged in developing disease forecasting systems, conducting economic impact studies, and advancing the One Health approach that links human and animal health.

Union Minister will address a workshop of livestock rearers and meet progressive farmers who have benefitted from NIVEDI’s technologies and training. He will also hold discussions with directors of other ICAR institutes in Bengaluru to review their progress and challenges. Local MPs and MLAs are expected to join the programmes.

The visit to Mysuru and Bengaluru is expected to highlight the contributions of ICAR institutions in research, innovation, and technology transfer, while also providing a platform for startups, farmers, and livestock keepers to share their experiences directly with the Union Minister.
